De Lille Cellars

Background

Founded in 1992 by Charles Lill, Chris Upchurch, Greg Lill, and Jay Soloff, DeLille Cellars is a small winery located in Woodinville, Washington. The winery’s goal is to make the very best handcrafted, old-world style red and white wine made in the state of Washington. DeLille is a family and independently owned winery with an uncompromising philosophy about the quality of its wines. With its facility at Woodinville Village, DeLille Cellars will at last be able to offer public wine tastings.

Wines

DeLille Cellars currently produces four Bordeaux-styled wines: Chaleur Estate Red, Harrison Hill, D2, and Chaleur Estate Blanc; and five Rhône-styled wines under the Doyenne label. These wines include, Doyenne Syrah, Aix, Roussanne, Métier Blanc, and Métier Red. Beginning in early 2008, DeLille Cellars will unveil its Grand Ciel wine. This premiere Red Mountain wine features grapes harvested from DeLille Cellars’ vineyard partnership with Jim Holmes, owner of the famous Ciel du Cheval vineyard on Red Mountain in Washington’s Yakima Valley. Grand Ciel is a magnificent wine, whose provenance is marked by exceptional vineyard structure and location, and the artistry of winemaker Chris Upchurch. The traditional DeLille Cellars structure allows for winemaking methods as in the finest chateaux of Bordeaux, including open top fermenters and an underground barrel cellar. Only grapes from the oldest and best vineyards in Washington State are acquired. They, in turn, are hand-picked and hand-sorted at crush, with only the finest berries. DeLille Cellars wines are aged in 100 percent new French Oak barrels every year.

Accolades

DeLille Cellars is one of Washington State’s finest wineries, producing award-winning wines with each new vintage. DeLille Cellars wines have scored as high as 97 points in wine publications spanning the globe. DeLille Cellars was named Winery of the Year 2000 by the New York Times on the web at Winetoday.com. Robert Parker Jr. of the "Wine Advocate" rated DeLille Cellars as one of the top four producers, bestowing the title of the "Lafite Rothschild of Washington State." And the winery's Grand Ciel has been heralded by industry leader Dan McCarthy as among the "very best cabernet sauvignons I've ever tasted from Washington State."
